Visiting the market in Nadi, Fiji

Bula Vinaka!!

I want to share a special experience of visiting the market in Nadi, Fiji. This town is close to where I'm originally from. This market is situated in the middle of the town center of Nadi in Viti-levu, Fiji. Inside you will find all the things you need, e.g souvenirs, fruit and vegetables, plantation food and traditional Fijian handicraft.

Why is it popular? The reason why this market is so popular is because it's situated in the middle of the town center and it's easy for everyone to see. It's also popular because it has different aspects of Fijian food, culture and tradition in it. With different types of people, color and race you won't be able to miss this market.  It's also close to the beautiful Gayatri Shaktipith Temple that are well known temple for tourists.

What kinds of people go there? All types of people go there. Either you are local, tourist or  from different parts of Fiji you will still reach this market. Age wise you can be a child, teenager, adult and old people you will still want to go and see this market.

It is a good place to spend a day trip because you will get to know and see the types of things you see in this market. You can get there either by car, hotel shuttle and bus. It is very cheap to get on a bus because from my village to go to town:

                                                                    Adults : $4.50 (Bus)

                                                                   Students: $2.50 (Bus)

If you travel on a hotel shuttle its $4.00 for a person including students and adults. You can just walk around the market. You have a lot of things to see and to buy. The most important thing is that you get to buy anything for a very small amount of money and take home a lot of different things.

Cost of :

Fruits and Vegetables : Under $10

                  Plantation Food:

                                             Taro: Bundle - ($5.00) - 6 pieces

                                             Cassava: Bunch - ($5.00) - 6-7 pieces

                                            Kumara: Bunch - ($5.00) - 7 pieces

The most expensive things that you would probably find in the market will be traditional handmade handicrafts which will probably cost about  $100-$300. If you buy a handicraft, it is a good souvenir to bring back with you so you don't miss out on having a little bit of something from where I'm from.

Accommodation:

The accommodation is very cheap and very luxurious and overlooks the great areas of Fiji. You can choose from all types of suites. If you prefer to live in a apartments, suites, lodge, dormitory, if you prefer to set up your own tent and there are camping grounds. All of the accommodation is easy, affordable and luxurious.

Food:

You can get food from the different local takeaway shops which is a 2 minute walk from the markets. You can choose from a wide range of different Fijian food that you like. The food is also cheap and quite nice.

For those who don't like to eat Fijian Food then you don't have to worry. In Nadi there is a McDonalds, KFC, Wendys, Burger King  where you can get burgers and fries at a very low price. There is a wide variety of food to choose from all you have to do is bring a lot of money because when you taste the food you will keep wanting more.

So if you are thinking of visiting Nadi and have no place to go for a day then you have to look no further. Nadi market is a great place to visit there is a lot of things to buy and you have nothing to lose but a lot of things to gain from visiting the Nadi market.

Thank You !
